Lending libraries should label media with information on the number of pieces included (i.e. "Includes 5 discs and 1 booklet").
Before shipping or returning media items, libraries should check the items to verify that all pieces are included.
Please do not attempt to use magnetic sensitizers/desensitizers on media.
A few members who do not participate in media lending have reported that some of their patrons appear to be able to request and receive media. Further investigation revealed that the media in question contained an incorrect item type (e.g. item type indicated that the item was a book--not media--so was actually requestable.)
If you receive a media item for one of your patrons and you are not a media lender, you should contact the owning library to alert them to check the item's itype.
All media should be placed in a bubble wrap/padded envelope before shipping. Bubble wrap/padded envelopes are reusable so be sure to rubber-band the envelope shut. Please do not tape, staple or glue the envelope shut.
Please package each media item individually and do not combine all media into the same envelope. Combining media together when shipping can cause damage to the case or even to the item itself.
Would you like to become a media lender? Contact the LINK+ Administrator to get started.
Media items (e.g. DVDs, CDs, audio books, etc.) listed as "available" in the LINK+ union catalog may be borrowed by patrons whose home libraries also have chosen to be media lenders. Patrons from libraries who do not loan media are not allowed to borrow it from media lenders. A list of media lenders can be found on the LINK+ catalog.
If you get complaints from patrons who can't request media, check this list to see if they are from a library who does not loan media.
Contact Amy Homick for more information on becoming a media lender.
Please unlock your DVD cases before shipping them to borrowing libraries. Not all libraries have a DVD case unlocking machine, and even those that do may not notice that the case is locked until a frustrated patron reports it.
